More information

The following are some of the common injuries that may be caused to pedestrians through road accidents:
  • Back, head and neck injuries
  • Broken limbs
  • Bruising and soft tissue injuries
  • Internal injuries to the head or the body
  • Paralysis
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
The majority of accidents that involve pedestrians are caused by the inattention or recklessness of motorists.

However, even if you believe that you might have been partially responsible for the accident, you may still be entitled to compensation. Speak to our team today to help you assess your eligibility.
You have 3 years from the date of an accident in which to start a pedestrian accident claim for compensation, or 3 years from the date of turning 18 if the accident happened when you were a child.

However, if your accident has occurred outside the UK there may be a different timescale to pursue your claim, which is why we would advise you to seek professional legal advice straight away.
In order to ensure that your claim is successful, two things will need to be established.

The first being that you will need to provide proof of your injury, such as having a medical professional assess your injuries and state for the record how severe your injury is.

The second, more complex part of pursuing your pedestrian accident claim is to prove that another party was liable for causing your injuries.
Common reasons for accidents on pavements, crossing the road and on official crossings include:
  • Not Paying Attention
  • Using Mobile Phones
  • Drink or Drug Driving
  • Speeding or Joyriding
You should report the incident to police straight away, whether the driver stops or not.

Other key tasks you should do include:
  • Always take note of number plates as well as driver contact details and if possible, witness details.
  • Take photographs of the scene if you can
  • Seek urgent medical attention and make an appointment with your GP to have your injuries assessed.
  • Keep any receipts for expenses incurred
A 'hit and run' or an accident involving an uninsured driver will usually be processed through the Motor Insurance Bureau.
