Did you hear the joke about raising £30,000 for charity?

In fact, it’s no joke at all. Harvey Harding and Nigel Taylor of PM Law were amongst 9 Sheffield business leaders who helped to raise this phenomenal amount last week … by doing stand-up comedy.

The annual Funny Business event is organised by Weston Park Cancer Charity and sees business leaders from a variety of sectors attempt stand-up in front of a live audience. Money raised goes towards funding projects for Weston Park Hospital including the expansion of research studies, improving the way cancer treatments are delivered and supporting the ongoing care provisions of patients and their families.

Harvey and Nigel spent months preparing their double act with many rewrites along the way. And only a few days before the big night it looked as if all their hard work would be wasted when Nigel fractured his foot and ended up with a cast and crutches. But like the trouper he is, he managed to hobble on stage and perform.

“People kept telling me to break a leg,” he says. “I took it a bit too literally! It was terrifying and if I wasn’t doing it for charity I would have run out the door last minute (cast and crutches permitting). But raising all that money made it worthwhile.”

Harvey agrees. “It was thoroughly enjoyable – a great opportunity to do something I never thought I would have the chance to do, to meet an extremely nice, supportive and like-minded group of people and most importantly to raise a load of money for charity.”

So far the event has raised more than £30,000 for the charity and money is still flowing in. To make a donation, go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/PMLaw.
